Train Tuesday is pulling into the daily DnD blog station yet again, but this time, we’ve got a Construct vs. Construct scenario with a newly commissioned Android pressed into service to reign in Mechanicals gone bad. It’s time to meet “The Hunter.”
We’ve spent a lot of time ensuring The Forgotten Rails has the right mix of heroes, villains, NPCs, and monsters to ensure your DnD campaign thrives when you mix in Aether Studios’ amazing hovertrain 3D prints. As a result, our cast of Constructs has flourished! We have a growing list of eye-popping mechanical miniatures (many free downloads btw), including The Coppers, The Lifters, The Cleaners, The Accelerators, Clockwork Butlers, The Movers, and so on. Still, DM Ben realized we were missing a critical miniature, and we had to fill in that storyline gap!
So, what happens when a robot goes off the rails, though?! Machines break, right? Well, someone or something has to restore order – quickly and quietly and that’s where our new Hunters come in! Often deployed in fast-moving, Seal-Team-esque security squads, their lone goal is to bring in any malfunctioning Construct! Waterdeep citizens know to stay out of their way or face dire consequences. Besides, it’s terrible PR when a Bot blows a fuse, so Omin Dran instructed Collis Strutt to devise a plan whenever a broken Android needs to be removed immediately.
This wicked-good miniature, called “Mace, the Droid Hunter,” comes courtesy of EC3D Designs Novus Landing Kickstarter. We nabbed this set as an add-on from their current Ghost City Frontier. Even better, the creator stayed true to himself once again by designing many of the models support-free. Plus, this 3D-print has a bit of a Star Wars vibe to it, and that made us love it even more!
Besides being highly intelligent and incredibly fast, the Hunters carry a mysterious pulse rifle on their backs that, when fired, quickly neutralizes any malfunctioning robot by terminating their power source. Despite possessing a highly accurate shot, an occasional bystander victim is part of the biz, and those folks become instantly paralyzed if they’re in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Once again, there’s a lot of controversy surrounding these Hunters because all The Forgotten Rails Constructs are supposed to be tethered to a limited-range power source and never possess the ability to roam freely. However, citizens seem to look the other way because malfunctioning Mechanicals is not a pretty sight, and these patrols are the only ones who can restore order with the fewest casualties (as Constructs typically possess incredible strength and are hard to neutralize).
Because defective robots can be so dangerous, no one can order search-and-secure security forces around, not even The Captain of the Guard. Hunters have a strict program installed that instantly activates the minute a distress call comes over the airwaves. However, that’s another red flag for all the Hovertrain antagonists, who are only growing in numbers. Some folks even think The Hunters aren’t machines but actual living beings under those helmets, but you know how “false rumors” can spread sometimes.
Regardless, never fear; the streets of Waterdeep are clear…for now…or so it seems 😉
Lastly, be sure to check out their slick Ghost City Kickstarter. It’s chock-full of new Construct minis, scatter terrain, buildings, and even vehicles. We’re really looking forward to printing, painting and sharing all these 3D-prints with you in the coming months.
Until next time!
